Frequently Asked Questions about the Insider’s Insight: Poster Presentations

To help you get the most out of our resource library, we have compiled answers to the most common questions regarding the development, application, and distribution of our specialist guides.

At Niche Science & Technology, we believe that sharing expertise is the first step toward industry-wide excellence.
An effective poster grabs attention quickly and communicates key findings clearly and succinctly. Many posters fail because they are cluttered, overly text-heavy, or use fonts too small to read from a distance.
Always check the conference organiser’s guidelines — including poster dimensions, orientation, font sizes, and content requirements — and allow enough time to plan, write, design, and print your poster.
Use large, readable fonts (e.g., 85 pt for titles, 56 pt for author names), clear tables with no more than five rows and columns, simple graphics, and a consistent colour theme (no more than two or three colours). Avoid dark backgrounds and unprofessional clipart.
Follow the “10–10 rule”: viewers typically scan a poster for only 10 seconds from 10 feet away. Use short text blocks (under 50 words), bold headings, plain language, and visually engaging figures that quickly convey the main message.
Arrive early, bring a hanging kit, ensure the poster is neatly displayed, prepare a brief verbal summary, stay with your poster during your session, engage passers-by, and provide handouts or business cards for follow-up.
